The Church of Dominus Flevit is located on the western slope of the Mount of Olives. As Jesus prepared to enter Jerusalem on the first Palm Sunday, he gazed down at at the city and cried because he had prophesied her destruction. Forty years later in AD 70 Jesus’ prophesy was fulfilled as Roman legions besieged the city, leveled it and burned the temple. The church of Dominus Flevit is in the shape of a teardrop. At the foot of the Altar is a mosaic of a hen gathering her chickens under her wings.
