The Beatitudes

The view from the Mount of Beatitudes

The Church of the Beatitudes lies on the peace filled north western shore of the Sea of Galilee. It is believed to be the site of the Sermon on the Mount. This is also believed to be the place where Jesus met His disciples after His resurrection, and directed them to “make disciples of all the nations.”

Matthew 5: 1-11, Matthew 28: 16-20

Lyrics

Jesus walked about all of Galilee teaching in their synagogues
Preaching the gospel of the kingdom
Healing every disease and infirmity among the people
His fame spread throughout Syria
And they brought Him the sick, those inflicted with pains and demons
Deaf and dumb and paralytics

And He healed them
And He healed them
And He healed them
And He healed them

Great crowds followed Him from Galilee, the Decap’olis, and Jerusalem
And Judea and from beyond the Jordan.
Seeing the crowds
He went up on the mountain
And his disciples came to Him

And He opened His mouth and taught them saying

Blessed are the poor in spirit
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven

Blessed are those who mourn
For they shall be comforted

Blessed are the meek
For they shall inherit the earth

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness
For they shall be satisfied
Yes they will be satisfied

Blessed are the merciful
For they shall obtain mercy

Blessed are the pure in heart
For they shall see God

Blessed are the peacemakers
For they shall be called sons of God

Blessed are those persecuted for righteousness’ sake
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven

Blessed are you when men revile and persecute you
And utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on My account

Rejoice and be glad
For your reward is great in heaven

Remember men persecuted the prophets who were before you

Seeing the crowds
He went up on the mountain
And his disciples came to him
He gazed upon His flock with a love they never knew
He opened up His mouth and He taught them
He opened up their minds and hearts and souls and He taught them
